How to open gas tank fuel pump locking ring on Volvo cars

Volvo cars interior are made from really cheap plastic, and when you want to remove something you broke the plastic parts very easy if you not very careful. This time how to open Volvo's gas tank fuel pump locking ring, which is made from weak plastic and is tightened very well.


These days regular cars are made from recycled materials, and the final result is not always the best quality, but we can live with that, just when you want to repair something by your self you may get some trouble when you break the parts that you want to remove.

Fuel pump in gas tank or fuel level sensor may break by time to time, and you have to change it, but in Volvo cars like s60, v70, s80, xc70 and so on the first generation in the year 2003 and above, has hard to open fuel thank locking ring without a special tool. And if you want to open it like, hit with a hummer by screwdriver, you 100% brake the locking ring and you have to buy new after that. Some Saab cars are the same situation if you want the gas tank locking ring to be removed.

Some other cars the hummer method may work, but not for Volvo and Saab. There is a special tool for that, you can buy it online or in some local store, and it looks like on the picture below.

And there is the way how to open that ring with some brain turn on when you have to open the gas tank ring right now and no time to order special tools for that. You can use a tool like in the picture and turn by crowbar, to open the ring saved.

Of course first, you have to remove back seats and lid before you be able to get to the gas tank.
